Performance Questions and a little need for some education.

John,

At the end of the day, is the performance differences (which seemed to
be small) all that important?
What I'm getting at is that I think that paying careful attention to
your accesses and linkages on order to optimize those should get you a
MUCH larger bang for your buck than fiddling around with TEMPS vs
DEFINES. Given the amount of your effort to re-write these programs,
with the extra testing, etc., that has to be done as opposed to the few
seconds that you MIGHT save, where is the payback going to be?

Thanks all!

Yes, it is Itanium.

I guess I will need to read up on this a little more. Does anyone have
any good recommendation as to read up on this sort of thing? The
regular manuals are good, but do not go into it to the level we have
been talking.

My thick head may need some additional reading to get around why the
results of my tests are so different on the two machines. I would
expect they might be the same proportionally, but they are not. They
seem to contradict each other when looking at the results of the two
machines.

Again, Thanks all,

John
