Thanks to all who responded. So far, the access statement
and select criteria changes are helping in my 4th pass,

access *subomC link sonum to hsonum of shipfil opt   &   
               link hshipid of shipfil to hshipid of shdfil opt
               
sel if (sodlin eq shdlin) or not record shipfil exists

The odd thing now is I'm dropping three records, but it is much
better than it was before! I need to check, but I think I'm
dropping multiple shipments on a single line item.
