Quiz page width limitation

We operate in a VMS environment, but it would surprise me if this were
different in other operating environments.
I agree with Ted that the limit only applies to reports, not to subfiles.
Using the statements:
set subfile name testit keep dictionary
report summary all
I had no problem outputting the entire record for a record that is 289 bytes
long (well beyond the 255 report limit).:
01/08/20 SUBFILE DICTIONARY Page 1
SUBFILE RECORD REPORT
Subfile: TESTIT (Permanent)
Organization: Direct
Format: 7
Record Size: 289 Bytes
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The only issue you have with creating a subfile rather than a flatfile
report is that numeric or date fields may not be readable in a different
environment, so you might have to use some defines to translate those fields
to character or freeform format.
Also, in the VMS environment, you have to do a convert on the subfile to
modify the FDL if you want to pull the data into a Windows environment tool
such as MS Access or MS Excel. Otherwise the data comes across in "stream"
rather than fixed width.
Another issue for VMS is that you can't take a subfile to a windows
environment via Pathworks and later copy it back to the VMS environment.
Something happens to the file structure along the way.

Only flatfiles created by QUIZ have the 255 limitation, QUIZ subfiles
don't have that limitation.

Quiz has a limit of 255 (if I remember correctly, it could be 264 as
well).
Use QTP.

Good Friday to the -L,
I'm testing a new proc which needs to create a 314-byte wide output
(subfile, disk file, nail file ]:-))....in Quiz 8.29E, HP 3000 937/LX
running MPE/iX 6.0.0
There's something about a pesky limit that, apparently, ain't 314....so,
how's a person to get around this...?
The family's waiting on me to move it along....I can feel the
heat!!!...heading up to Wisconsin for the weekend and Would Really Like
to
have the -L come thru for me on this!!!
