Thanks Ron,
I think that was the problem. We do normally purge those file names
before the run, but with testing it I started it up again midway (after
the purges). The first file name I was creating did exist in that
group, the other five did not. Evidently, if it finds just one, it
assumes the others are also there. ????? Oh well, testing
resumes...thanks for the help.

Check in the current group for a file of the same name as the one you're
trying to create with Quiz.
