Joseph,
I my opinion 4GL's concepts are more important than syntax.   PowerHouse
syntax is a simple to master but the concepts take a little time.  I have
found that programmers who don't understand the concepts abuse the language,
write ugly and poor performing code and should stick to COBOL.  As for the
expensive courses, I believe that it is much more expensive in the long run
not to take them.

My manuals are dog eared and coffee stained but I wouldn't part with them
for the world.  Well done Bob!

If I were making an acronym it would have been RTWM, with W standing for
worthless. I have never seen such poor documentation  of anything except
SPEEDWARE. IMHO the manual of a proprietary "language" needs to be a little
bit heavier on syntax and lighter on concepts. The only saving grace is that
since we pay such exorbitant support fees I have no qualms about calling the
support line.

I totally agree with the comment about arrogance of the response, "RTFM."
Maybe COGNOS could learn from that sentiment and produce a decent manual,
instead of saying, "TTEC," Take The Expensive Course.

Just my thoughts.
