Now I have to respond and will probably start a new "war". Let's not start
the "PowerHouse is dead" thing again. PowerHouse is not on the way out. We
can argue about the price and I'll agree that PowerHouse is more expensive
than anything free. We can argue about how much Cognos charges for the
product and for support. But the bottom line is productivity. How much is
your time worth? Is there something as productive as PowerHouse for free?
PowerHouse is still one of the most, if not the most, productive tools
available for creating business systems on mid-range systems. If you want to
re-write your systems in Java, go ahead. But please let us all know how much
time it takes compared to the time it would have taken using PowerHouse.
And don't tell me that PowerHouse can't evolve and change. I'm the Product
Manager for PowerHouse Web and I know better. We did client/server and now
we're doing the web. I've seen more jaws drop when I create a working web
application screen and form with 4 lines of code (SCREEN, FILE, GEN, BUILD).
Sure PowerHouse is old, but that doesn't mean it's not still great. Look at
our symbol - the Concorde. 30 year old technology that's still world class -
just like PowerHouse.
And I never get off my PowerHouse soapbox.
Now let's get back to solving problems.

The only think I want to blame our friend who asked the QUIZ quistions
is to start using Power House at all. We live in ´99 and everybody knows
that Powersaurus is on the way out like a lot of other giants these days.
Today you can get loads of programming tools (ex. Java ) and other
stuff (ex. Linux) for free or at least at very low expense. We need to face
the fact that the world around us is changing, and we need to change
as well. We have 1500 - 2000 programs (Cobol and PH) and we are
starting all over again because we often ran into problems and limitations
and spend a lot of time "workin´ around". We still need to run the stuff
for at least 1 or 2 years but we want to follow whats going on in the real
world.
