Porting Powerhouse code

Hi Mike,
I have a number of points on this.
1. I do not think there is a "formula" as it would highly depend on your
application.
2. There is a company here is Australia, who specialise in such system
conversions. Their name is IT Solutions and they are a Cognos partner. If you
contact them, they may be able to provide you with an idea based on their
experience. Not sure of the contact details, you can get it by contacting
Cognos either in Canada, or if they do not know, then here is Australia.
3. You are actually talking about 3 conversions:
a) Powerhouse conversion from one version to another.
b) Operating system conversion from HP to UNIX. There is an old (early 90s)
document from Cognos about porting PH applications from HP to UNIX,
that would be helpfull. They do have a old copy at Cognos Australia.
c) Database conversion, complicated by the fact that you are moving from
non-relational database to relational database.
4. As an example, a few years ago I was involved in a conversion from (DG
AOS/VS, DG/SQL database, version 6 of PH) to (DG UNIX, Interbase, version 7
of PH).
The system had 2000 Quick screens, 1500 Quiz programs, 400 QTP programs, 50
COBOL programs and 600 O/S command files. The database contained 250 tables.
This
conversion took us (a team of 6 IT people and a cast of thousands in user
departments)
6 months, 3 months converting and 3 months testing/correcting.
I hope this gives you the feel for the task.
