Cognos Support and Powerhouse 8

Hello everybody,

Actually, we are working with Powerhouse 7 on different platforms.
So far, we did not do any tests with version 8.

We believe that we (all) need to go to version 8 for an easier handling
of year 2000 problems (e.g. change default century without recompiling).
We also use a lot of ghost screen as a workaround for the 31 file-limit.
Cognos has no intention at all to augment this limit. So we can not
agree to 'see' those screens.

The same problem also occurs in Axiant!
Even in Axiant we can't agree the Cognos functionality.

We are happy to be receive your information.
We are very disappointed to hear about those 'bad' functionalities in
Powerhouse 8.
We hope that Cognos will provide a 'normal' behaviour of Powerhouse 8
long before 1/1/2000.

Kind regards,

Frank Durinck

I have been biting my tongue on this issue long enough. After
reading
all the rosy endorsements for Cognos (and I always have to check
who the
comments are from), I feel I should respond.

First, Customer Support from Cognos has come a long way. The
response
time is generally very good and if a real issue arises, the
problem is
escalated and an experienced veteran is included in the loop.
We have
worked closely with a number of talented people from Cognos.

This is the end of the rosy picture.

We recently installed PowerHouse 8.13. We have been waiting a
long time
for this release. We have now had the tape installed in a test
environment for about 8 weeks. Among the normal multitude of
issues
that we have encountered is a glaring speed issue. An example
of this.
As most companies, we develop 'ghost' screens to handle
processing (as a
result of the 31 file limit). This is a screen with no screen
layout
and therefore, no user interface. With 8.13, we now 'see' these
screens
while we wait for processing to complete. We also watch the
screen get
painted. Fields that have modifications to them during the
postfind
procedure, will show with their original value and then be
re-displayed
	again with the corrected value.

We are now stopping all testing using PH 8.13. We have yet to
receive
any responses on the speed issue. In fact, we can not get
confirmation
that it is an issue other than the fact that another company we
have
spoken to have experienced the same problem. Is there anybody
else
	using a PH 8.1x version?

I have watched the 'demise' of PowerHouse. I was at the last
Cognos
conference where the announcement of PH 8.0x was made and the
'commitment' to further development of ADT tools was made. We
still do
not have an acceptable copy of PH 8 for us non-Axiant customers.
Announcements of PH Web products are quite comical when so many
problems
still exist with the last announcement.
