As a recruiter, I see this as quite an interesting example of the laws of
suppply and demand which affect both current "hot" products like SAP, BAAN
etc, and some older, less-likely-to-be-featured-in-Wired products like
Powerhouse, Cassette Basic ;-)
The diminished customer base for Powerhouse and the subsequent drop off in
knowledgeable Powerhouse developers creates a significant demand, I know
that I have had ongoing requirements for Powerhouse people in Vancouver for
the past 4 years! This is true in the reverse for SAP where strong demand
and an increasing customer base creates the same situation.
It reminds me of the years when I sold semiconductors, when the 256K DRAM
came out, it was all the rage, but many customers still had products
designed around the 16K DRAM, one of my biggest ever orders was for 40K 16K
DRAMS which one company in Montreal had sitting around as they had moved
on, and another company in California needed.
I don't mean to infer that pwerhouse programmers are like 16K drams, some
of my best friends are powerhouse programmers ;-).
Who would have thought that COBOL programmers would be the '"hottest
commodity of the year"

Haven't won the lottery in a while, so send me some resumes. Remember, the
Canadian looney is worth about 33 cents.
Other recruiters at other
