Both products, Omnidex from DISC and Superdex from Bradmark, can be
integrated into PH using the TPI interface (Third Party Indexing).
These products catalog their own indexes. I'm foggy if they are stored
external to the db or in the db. Their function is are called from
PowerHouse, usually Quiz or QTP, using a key sequence which invokes a data
selection interface. Specific env vars are needed to enable calling the
TPI, such as HPTYPEAHEAD and I believe at least one var for the specific
vendor, and maybe another to indicate to PH that TPI was enabled. The
vendor's XL also had to be added to the XL list or PATH or something like
that. It's been at least 15 years - all of this is now foggy.
For the DISC product the calling key sequence invoked the Omnidex command
line where the user specified search criteria. The command line prompts
and parms were invisible to the Quiz/QTP parser.
Once the selection is entered the TPI package does its thing invisible to
the ACCESS stmt processing by redirecting data reads to the data returned
by the TPI vendor.
The TPI enhancement was documented in the 7.2x doc set.
Good luck.

Anyone out there still using Turbo Image on the HP3000?
Does anyone know how to enhance the indexes on turbo image?
The application I am using is ALL detail datasets…what a PITA.
I heard there is something out there that can let me create unique indexes
on this database. Superdex or Omnidex or something else.
If all else fails I can always move the data out to KSAM data files.
