It's certainly possible that the message in question got lost somehow. And
it certainly seems to fit the circumstances given the solution/workaround.
I'd still like you to report it if you wouldn't mind so that we have a
record and a customer report rather than simply an internal report.

There are indeed files in the run, but I have managed to find a
qtpmsge-file for version 7.29.C8 on a HP3000 and right before "No files
declared in this run." is listed "The run requirements exceed the
addressable memory.'
The request accesses a subfile, links to a database table and has 14
output statements to the another (aliased) database table. We have worked
around the problem by replacing the 14 output statements by 14 subfile (13
appended) statements, and an extra request to add the records to the
second database table.

I compared the 8.23D7 file with the current (8.43F) file. Neither file has
a message in row 547. However, there is a message in row 548 in 8.43F that
is not in 8.23D7. The message is "No files declared in this run." Are
there files in your run? If there aren't, the message may have been
misplaced. QTP requires files to do anything.

OK - will do. The important thing is of course to learn what triggers the
message, but we will also insert a descriptive text in the alternative
message file once we know.

You'll have to report this as a bug because a developer will have to look
in the product to find out what's happening to trigger message 547. They
won't be able to fix version 8.23D7 which is out of support, but they will
be able to tell you what the problem is. Then if you want to add the
message to the alternative message file, you'll be able to see the message
if it happens again.

Hi Bob,
The qtp-version is 8.23.D7 and the OS is AIX.
We have found the message file qtpmsg.txt in
usr/cognos/ph823d7/msg/english. It has 1460 lines and line 547 is blank
(546 through 548 are all blank).

What version are you using? The number refers to the line in the message
table which is also the line in the alternative message file. So take a
look at the qtpmsge.txt file at line 547. It should be blank. If not, QTP
isn't picking up the message properly. If it is, there should be a message
there.
The only way this is not a bug is if you are using an alternative message
file and the messages have gotten out of sync.
