Hi,
an age old problem has resurfaced with a new twist.
We have a new Canon printer and - lo and behold - it has no LPT port.
So we can't even print to it from our HP3000 using a JetDirect box.
The only access we have is the Network interface.
I tried different parms in my NPCONFIG file
167 (NETWORK_ADDRESS = 192.1.1.13
TCP_PORT_NUMBER=9100
BANNER_TRAILER = FALSE
BANNER_HEADER = FALSE
SETUP_FILE = NPSETUP3
PJL_SUPPORTED = TRUE
or
167 (NETWORK_ADDRESS = 192.1.1.13
TCP_PORT_NUMBER=9100
poll_interval = 4
poll_interval_max = 4
data_timeout = 20
jam_recovery = false
snmp_enabled = FALSE
snmp_timeout = 10
snmp_max_retries = 5
pjl_supported = false
message_interval = 0
Then I test with
file xyz;dev = 167
showme > *xyz
but nothing gets printed.
The output is in PRINT status but is stuck.
I saw a newsgroup posting from Eric Sorensen who says
"The MPE network spooler "expects" to get a response to the PJL status
inquiry (from the printer) and also "expects" a SNMP response (from
the network interface). If the printer cannot respond with PJL, then
the spooler will not send data. In that case, use a different printer,
or use a third-party spooler (i.e. NBSpool from Quest Software)."
Is that the final word on the subject. Or has someone found a workaround?
Is it possible to suspend, override or ignore the PJL status inquiry ?
or force the printer to reply ?
Idem for SNMP ?
Any ideas ?
TIA
Wayne
