       Hi John:

You definitely want to get rid of the OPEN # syntax as each OPEN with a different # causes
           another attach.

Try running the application with DBAUDIT=FULL this will show when there is a new attach.

If you do use GO or $QUICK from QDESIGN then the signon user will still have the attaches that
QDESIGN opened. I believe SET DICT before the GO will cause QDESIGN to detach.

      Regards,
      Peter Bateman

Hello again, fellow PH listers:

I've been asked to determine how many PH attaches Quick makes to Rdb. Our DBA (in Denver) says he sees between 2 and 5 per user. He's concerned about exceeding the 2,032 attach limit and having to upgrade because of same. i.e. RDB, PH, VMS O/S

I conclude we have one d/b attach for each file statement referencing a unique database. So if we have 3 databases we get 3 attaches?

What about ALIASes?

What effect (if any) is there in using a CLOSE command but FWIW, I believe that only works for flat or indexed files, not relational databases?

I don't know off the top, Google wasn't that much help, how we can minimize the attaches which is the focus of the questions. I recall DISCONNECT DEFAULT works in SQL, but......

TIA

Best and thanks to all who responded to my earlier....

JP
