[BULK] RE: Windows Server / Powerhouse

The way we're set up right now on Windows, the only alternatives are
Windows Terminal Server or Remote Desktop. However, we don't do any
testing on the former and minimal testing on the latter.

If those aren't satisfactory, your alternative is to try out some telnet
clients and see if you can find a good one.

Hi Bob,
There is nothing to be embarrassed about. This is clear and straight
forward answer that I was looking for.
We do need to have the processing done on the server to get the faster
data
Transfer rate from the MSSQL to Powerhouse. If we were to run it as a
client's process we would be sending data back and forth to the server
thus sending us right back to the problem we have right now with AIX.
Thanks again.
Viet.

Well, I'm a little embarrassed, but it wouldn't be the first time. It's
not as simple as I hoped. There was so much setup involved in getting
things to work that you really wouldn't want to do it. You might as well
install PowerHouse. In fact, even if you simply use a shortcut to the
server, you're still doing your processing on the client machine.

So, back to square one. I know you were looking for a telnet client but
is there a problem with either installing PowerHouse on each workstation
(and running the licensing daemon from a central server) or using a
shortcut to the central server. In both cases, your processing will
occur on the client machine, but of course your data and application
files can be anywhere on the network.

That said, there may be other telnet clients that will work. We have not
done any extensive searching.

Hi Ken,
I just want something that allows me to work on windows like I am
working with AIX now. I know I can do it with Remote Desk Top but this
is too heavy and Telnet is giving me funky characters - I am waiting for
Bob to get some clarifications for Qkview. But if it can only deal with
Quick then the other 2 products are not accessible then.

Viet,

QKView is a QUICK scrapper tool...not a QTP wrapper.
If you want to run jobs up o the server, you need a Batch Queue and
launch
screens to create the jobs.

Hello Bob,
Line drawing doesn't work I will look around for solutions.

With Qkview - can I install that on each workstation and tell it to Run
the
qtp program on the server on the server cpu? Or is this just A wrapper
that
launches QTP to run locally?
Thanks.
Viet.

Our developer suggests PuTTY along with setting the Windows (1252) code
page. Keep in mind that this is not directly supported since we do not
test
with it. I can't say how well line drawing will work.

Another option might be QKView (available in 8.41E) looking at a mounted
drive with the PH install location. I believe there are some customers
who
have tried that. Again we have not tested that specific scenario at this
time.

Hi Viet:

It is my understanding to run PowerHouse on Windows
you would need to be running on you local PC.
or be using something like CITRIX or Windows terminal
   server.

You could also use Axiant Thin client. This would
be my preferred method if I can't run Powerhouse locally.

Peter Bateman
