CSV ramblings

We have had to work with tab delimited tables from excel to load charge
tables into our main patient database.
It used to take ages to do manually, this way we are able use excel for
formulas and basically just export to tab delim tables and upload data.
I use a command line language DCL under open vms system, converts using
the tab spacing to set widths and create a subfile at the sum of all the
widest fields. Each fields is made character and widest of all fields
for that field.
Is run through the entire file, finding the widest width for each fields
and then re runs and packs out each field to the widest.
Then once in subfile format you just then need to play with the file to
ensure the data is valid, being in character is easy to play with.
But something in powerhouse that allows importing csv or tab delim would
be great even if just loads to character filled fields for later
formatting would be grand help.
Darren.

Powerhouse users often provide data from Excel either as an .xls file or
(occasionally) in CSV format. Converting it to CSV is of course no
chore. However, loading the data into Powerhouse tables is an awkward
and time-consuming process, so a PH tool to streamline it would be most
welcome.
