[HP3000-L] IBM Buying Cognos

The Powerhouse business is a relatively small part of Cognos when compared
with the BI assets. Therefore, from a purely practical point if view, it is
not entirely obvious that the part of IBM that purchased the company care as
much about Powerhouse.

That said, the saving grace is that IBM does not seem to "pull the plug" on
any software product that produces recurring revenue. My guess is that they
will do what they have done with Informix. They keep supporting it but they
do not enhance it much. At the same time they offer substantial migration
paths to other IBM offerings. What I mean is that they offer a
comprehensive solution including tools and services to help customers change
to some product and technologies that IBM considers sustainable in the
current software markets.

Hi

Given what Cognos has done recently to make PowerHouse
more IBM friendly ( re-instating Informix as a supported
database and adding DB2 functions to the AIX version)
I doubt that IBM wants to pull the plug on PowerHouse.

Peter
