Powerhouse Enhancement - how about a report along the lines of
the output from 'set lang sql' but in this case QTP provides a
list showing how it has reorganised the qtp syntax coded by the
programmer etc...

I was about to suggest running the Tracer with some test data to see
what QTP is doing when I read the last bit. Actually, when we were doing
the tracer, we uncovered more than one thing that we didn't understand.
The Tracer issues messages as things are happening. QTP does a few
things that aren't obvious, even with the flow charts.
While I understand how this would benefit developers, we may be getting
to the stage of having to say do you want A or B. I'll keep this one in
my file, but I suspect that it since we have the Tracer, this wouldn't
get as high a priority as other features.

The moment I clicked the send button my minds eye caught sight
of a cascade of boulders, 'meteorites' and greenhouses winging their way
through the supernet interway avenue, straight to my inbox; but I think
Mike has provided a pretty hefty deflection - for which many thanks to
Mike :-).
As for my Powerhouse Enhancement - how about a QTP report along
the lines of the output from 'set lang sql', but in this case QTP
provides a list showing how it has reorganised the qtp syntax coded by
the programmer, into each of the phases ( and reported in exactly the
same format as the examples in Matt's paper ) including all actions
taken in the background by each QTP phase, e.g. for a table update, the
list would show that QTP has read in the record, and exactly at which
point in the QTP list of things to do, etc... You would have to see an
example of Matt's timing tables to fully appreciate how this would help
the developer.
That said, this is possibly already available in the QTP tracer
output, but as I haven't actually seen this feature in action I wouldn't
know.
Regards, Joe

Shockingly bad joke! ;-).
Good to see Matt come back from the bowels of Cognos blinking
into the sunlight. ;-). I'll say hi to Mr. Solland for you Matt.

I'll take this under advisement for the next release. It will
depend on the resources we have available to do an update. I do have the
paper as well as all of the information incorporated into the old
Advanced PowerHouse Topics Seminar.

By pure chance (and I haven't seen this in at least
seven years ) I found my copy of Matt's doc which runs to thirteen
pages. I agree that the general topics are present in the QTP
documentation, but the examples given in Matt's doc are much clearer and
given in much greater detail.
The title of the paper is 'The care and feeding of QTP (
How to make it obey, and what to do when it doesn't )'; I particularly
like the first paragraph, which includes the line 'QTP... it seems to
have a ( fairly malicious ) mind if its own' :-).
I couldn't remember the authors name until I saw it
yesterday, I always thought it was something to do with Physics, but
'Matt' rings no physics bells for me :-).
