qzc into qzs

Code management tools are good for tracking and keeping code current.
But if you don't compile the system periodically, you won't be able to
tell if one change cause another to fail.
Ie, Changes to the dictionary can have catastrophic effects.
I would hate to make a change only to find out the only program effected
adversely is the year-end process, by the time you find out there is a
problem, you're scrambling.
I still prefer to compile and get notified as soon as possible if there
are any errors at all. My memory is getting shorter the older I get.
Remembering what I did last month compared to what I did yesterday is
not as easy as it once was...lol
As for running Source code for QTP/QUIZ, up until recently I was running
all my QUIZ via source code. It has it's advantages I agree. But once I
found a way to mass compile Qtp/Quiz together, I now run the compile
every night and run compiled code. You can still run source Qtp/quiz,
but I would still prefer to find out as many errors as possible before
the user runs it.

I agree: in this world of increasing scrutiny of procedures and
introduction of ITIL, CobIT, Sarbanes-Oxley, etc., it is imperative to
have strong policies, procedures around source code control and
development environments.
Especially key is to have separate environments for test/development.
We also have the majority of our Quiz & Qtp running from SOURCE CODE.
This has a couple of significant advantages:
* you cannot lose the source code, or if it does get lost it
shows up pretty quickly!
* it is far easier to work with subfiles, especially under Unix,
which doesn't have MPE's "temporary" files

How does one get surprised if your using a source code control library
and backing it up? It makes it tough to 'loose' code and get a shocking
'surprised'.
Is Code Management System (CMS) still available for VMS? If not or it
'costs', then surely there is some open source alternative.
