Maintaining Large RMS files over 1 million blocks

Could it be that the disc manager is having to hunt around for clusters to
allocate during the build ? Try building the file on a disc with plenty of
disc space, and possibly using the contiguous option - the down side is that
this will require a 1.5 M contiguous block allocation.

Subject: Maintaining Large RMS files over 1 million blocks

Hi Folks

When I run the

$convert file.dat file.dat

it takes several hours. The file is 1.5 million
blocks.

IS there a more efficient way to optimize the file?

Is moving to Oracle 7 on OpenVMS Alpha good option?
Thanks
