migration documentation available to Mpex guys - and as400 ?

It is unlikely that there will be a migration guide for AS/400 as the
business volume is not there. What I'm talking about is a formal book.
These things cost a fair bit to prepare and that means justification in
terms of business volume, as well as interest. I mean, we have had a
large number of MPE/iX customers ask for assistance but very few AS/400
customers. And as for assisting those AS/400 customers with migrations,
we certainly do that via our professional services group and customer
support.

I may have been misunderstood so this is what I meant by my original
question -
BobD said that there is now migration documentation available to Mpex
guys; as the AS400 is now also to be sunset'd, I wondered if migration
documentation would be made available which would help the as400 guys
migrate as is the case for the Mpex guys.

FYI: You won't be seeing any migrations TO the AS/400, because Cognos
has sunsetted support on that platform.

Just so I don't get lynched, here's the "short" history...
Yes there are differences between the OS/400 version of QUICK/QDESIGN
and the other platforms. Many of these differences are because of the
difference in the user interface. OS/400 has a CUA/panel interface.
Because of these differences and the internal architecture, it was felt
that it would be easier to re-write QUICK than to attempt to modify the
existing version. At least at the time. Who knows what would be done
today.
In any case, given the opportunity to re-write, they also removed some
of the restrictions, such as the 31 file limit. The reason that this is
such a big deal is that QUICK is based on tables and the various limits
are not only the table size limits but the pointers to other tables as
well.
Keep in mind that it was a new platform. It was considered different
enough so that they could justify a re-write. And they did not have an
established customer base that would notice even subtle differences in
behavior.

Mike
Wadda ya mean there are features that are not on UNIX
or NT????
BOB, how can you let this happen?
More than 31 files???? Now I'm jealous.
I think we need to address this issue....lol
Good to here from you Mike.
Keep me posted when the Next AS400 to UNIX/NT comes
along....I can use the extra money. :)
PS...My rate would definately be higher for that conversion....woohoo
