Is it a locking problem ?
Would the 8 you are seeing correspond to a few non-unique datestamps in 
the data ? If not, it's very odd to see 8 out of 24k rather than 0.
Quiz really shouldn't exhibit locking problems - I'd only expect them in 
Quick & qtp. However, I'm blissfully ignorant of Oracle/rdb.
