If QTP populated the field, it's probable that it used the CHECKSUM
function. See the PowerHouse Rules pdf page 324 for a description.

Subject: CHECKSUM function in PowerHouse
Is the formula for the CHECKSUM function published anywhere?
I want to create a Cobol program to do some work on a dataset.
The dataset has a field that was populated in a QTP program that
contains the results of a CHECKSUM. I want the Cobol program to read
some source data from a flat file, calculate a checksum for the same
fields and compare the results to the checksum stored in the dataset.
If they are different, It will trigger a series of updates to happen in
the Cobol program.
If the formula is not published, is there a way to call the PH
function?
