Sorting rows in a cluster

We often used sortfiles. Basically, generic, long string rows of data where
the first dozen or so characters constitute the key. You will read the data
you want in the cluster, write that data to the sort file then use the
sortfile as the data for your cluster. You can sort by anything you feel
like. They are pretty darned slick.
We used OpenVMS and RMS by the way.

screen in a sequence by a column that is not in the primary file (I.e., the
column I want to sort by comes from a reference file.) The primary file is
being updated in this screen.
