interesting ive just tried putting the slash on the stylesheet and moving it into wwwroot and its seems to be working ok. So i dont what the problem was there but its not related.
i also said "linkpage url" that should be "defer linkpage url", ive just tried
"linkpage url" actually and that works.
so the problem is only related to defer linkpage

ah that explains a few things:
the stylesheet is in the cgi-bin directory and is reference without the slash:
"newstyle.css"
i forgot the slash on the url example, it should be "/mypage.html". Originally the stylesheet was "/newstyle.css" but it didnt pick up the stylesheet from the root directory, there was no error but no style either.
so ive just tried putting the page in the cgi-bin and taking off the slash but its not worked either, so maybe the stylesheet problem is not quite the same, it tried to go to:
http://mysite.co.uk/cgi-bin/ä://mysite.co.uk:80mypage.html
which is exactly the same minus a slash

For the stylesheet and images, make sure you have a slash at the beginning to denote a relative path. Otherwise the Web Server assumes it is where you're at, i.e. cgi-bin. I tried this and with no slash, picked up a style sheet from cgi-bin. With a slash, i.e. HTMLSTYLSHEET "/style.css", it picked up the style sheet from wwwroot. I expect it would be the same for relative URLs.

Maybe this will give a clue to whats wrong; when i use the "linkpage url" for
"mypage.html" for example i get:
http://mysite.co.uk/cgi-bin/ä://mysite.co.uk:80/mypage.html
and page not found
where you would expect http://mysite.co.uk/mypage.html
i set logging on the cgi and it showed this in paramlog.txt:
Location: ä://mysite.co.uk:80/mypage.html
Ive no idea why it shows ä instead of http.

hi,
yes the virtual directory is under wwwroot, the physical directory is 1 level higher in inetpub
For stylesheets we do something like this:
Page testpage html application main_Cen htmlstylesheet "newstyle.css"
It will only locate newstyle.css if its in the cgi-bin, not if its in wwwroot.

It may depend on how you reference your stylesheet, images, etc. Can you attach an example of such a reference? I gather that your virtual cgi-bin directory is under wwwroot. I'm nit sure that it makes a difference, but where is it physically?

well the ph documentation and our site administrator both agree it is usual to have a virtual directory for the cgi so i dont think that can be the problem. Ive logged a support call.

Subject: website root directory and phweb
Hi all,
Im having a problem with phweb 8.40d (server is vms 7.3-2 and the webserver is IIS on windows 2000).
Phweb is looking for files in the cgi-bin directory rather than the main website directory e.g. the stylesheet and images directory and relative urls; it looks for them in the cgi-bin rather than in wwwroot.
Anyone have any ideas what could cause this? Things to check?
Im guessing at the moment is it could be because the cgi-bin is a virtual directory set within wwwroot but is actually somewhere else. anyone had a problem with virtual directories?
tia
