I don't disagree with discussing/comparing PH to alternative tools; that's
healthy. I am concerned about commercial posts on the list. One the great
things about this list is that it is not controlled by Cognos. We can
openly express our feelings and experiences with the Cognos tools, positive
and negative, without fear of vendor censorship.
However from what I am hearing in the responses it is not Cognos who have
given up on PH but rather it is us. I am upset with myself for convincing
my client to purchase PH. I should have told him to go Java based on what
I'm reading.
BTW, has anyone noticed that Impromptu is "dead" now too? It has been
removed from a number of product lists on Cognos pages and mailings. The
push to ReportNet has signed the death warrant for Impromptu, Query and
other BI tools. Some are already dead - Data Merchant, Scenario and
4Thought to name just three.
Also Cognos is repositioning itself again in the market. It is focusing
more on and more on CPM (Corporate Performance Management) tools and less on
BI. The agenda at the recent 1 day seminars, last June's User/Partner
Conferences and the latest marketing.
I think I need to get out of the programming business. :(
Confused and frustrated Blue
