QKTRACE

While installing 8.40D (OpenVMS) I saw in "new features" QKTRACE - I tried
this under 8.30D2 (840 not completed installing) and I'm wondering if
anyone else has found any utility to this thing...
Here is a block right out of the middle of the generated trace file;
10:04:55 [01][2] Subscreen MDS_LOCATION:MDS02030
10:04:55 [02][2] Screen Load MDS_LOCATION:MDS02030
10:04:55 [02][2] Initialize Procedure
10:04:56 [02][2] Information Message Enter the mode, which is E, F
or S.
10:04:57 [02][2] Action Command Find
10:04:57 [02][2] Path Procedure
10:04:58 [02][2] Field Command Skip Cluster
10:04:58 [02][2] Find Procedure
10:04:59 [02][2] Postfind Procedure
10:04:59 [02][2] Internal Procedure <name>
10:05:00 [02][2] Action Command Numbered
10:05:00 [02][2] Designer Procedure
10:05:00 [02][2] Subscreen MDS_LOCATION:MDS02033LM
10:05:21 [02][2] Preupdate Procedure
10:05:21 [02][2] Internal Procedure <name>
Note that the Designer Procedures show as a reversed question mark (not at
all in email) and all internal procedures are just <name> - as far as I can
tell, this trace will tell you what screens were run, but not much useful
about what was done in each one, and nothing about what the user typed or
what internal procedures were run. Plus at random times, but very early in
the process (1 or 2 screens deep) it fails with "Unable to write to the
Quick trace file (QKTRACE)." and drops me back to the system prompt.
Is this something that was "sort of" in 830 that's fixed in 840, or is it
still useless in 840? Should I report a bug, or is this what is expected
from this?
???
