I seem to recall that a number of 'big hitters' are providing on the Windows
platforms, so it may be more robust than you give it credit; but, as always,
this is purely vague recollection rather than factual knowledge :-)
P.S. would Cognos provide solutions on this platform if it were not
confident that it's customers would not be disappointed with it's
performance - I suspect not, but I have no supporting evidence - so good
luck - wherever you go.

Thanks for the input (including Darren Reely's message that just came in).
I think going from an AS/400 to Windows would be a huge step backwards in
terms of reliability and up-time.
I'm thinking that the AIX solution may be our best bet.
Thanks again.

I think you can now access DB2 from all of the latest PH platforms, why not
go for Axiant on Windows - it has a GUI interface which is likely as close
to the AS400 environment as you're going to get.

You have two good options.
1) You can actually run the Powerhouse AIX version on the iSeries. The
iSeries supports the PASE environment which is 99% AIX compatible. We
routinely move AIX code to the iSeries with usually without any recompile.
DB2 on the iSeries is very slightly different, so there will likely be some
minor issues there. Support is an issue you will have to take up with
COGNOS. However, there are no serious technical issues.
2) I don't know the details, but I undersand that AIX is now or will soon be
supported on the iSeries in an LPAR.

Charles, et al
We're running our custom PowerHouse-developed application on an IBM AS/400
(iSeries), a platform that Cognos has recently "sunsetted". (They haven't
been doing development for the system for several years, but they've
announced the total end of support in February of 2007.) I see PowerHouse
and the AS/400 as being very similar: rock solid, bug-free, low down-time,
efficient, low "total cost of ownership", and underappreciated in the
marketplace.
We're reluctant to drop either PowerHouse or the AS/400, but my company is
starting to look at our options. What's your recommendation for a platform
for us to migrate our custom programs to?
Thanks.
