data in wrong file

Bearing in mind that I have no VMS/RMS experience:
Do you have one of the following?
* User making a mistake?
* Are these two file definitions LOGICAL re-definitions of the same PHYSICAL
file?
Unless they are, it should be impossible to get the two confused.
* Pay attention to your FILE statements and the OPEN # options. I've had, a
long time in the past, strange things happen where I was using ALIASs. If
you're doing an ALIAS then you want to be very careful that you have
different OPEN numbers on the files. You may even have to resort to using
the NOITEMS statement.
Good luck,
Guy.

Chris,
I'm sure it is Powerhouse and quite sure it is quick rather than qtp.
The problem comes up just for one or two records a week. In qtp this file is
mass updated so I don't think it's qtp.
No external procedures used. Some 3gl used, but not for these records.
To answer Bob:
I recompiled everything last week (I thought that may be the case too) but
that makes no difference. I even 'recovered' the dictionary with phdmaint,
but that didn't help either.
