I was asked this question today & can't remember the answer!! Anyone any ideas?

This sort of thing has always been supported. But don't get too excited.
What's happening here is that the use of PIC changes the way QUIZ treats the
type from a date to a numeric. So QUIZ substitutes the number in the VMSDATE
into the PIC. That's why the OUTPUT SCALE is needed. If you want to do any
formatting, you still need to extract and manipulate.

I never knew this was posible - I've always used dateextract to define a 
temp, which is horribly messy, particularly when you want input as well 
as display.

What versions is this supported from ?
Does it support various formats, or just yyyymmdd ?
