Locking problem with Oralce 9i/PowerHouse

Frank:

It sounds like the granularity of the lock taken out by Oracle 9i
is rather coarse. Does Cognos even claim support for Oracle 9i?
Does Oracle have a lock monitoring tool? You can run Oracles's UTLLOCKT.SQL
to show you where you are locked up.

It depends on the type of lock taken out by Quick.
I would try running a read_only transaction and the update transaction.
the read_only transaction would be commited often. I would put my find
and lookup processing in the read_only transaction.

One could do commit at update and in the higher level screen where
you nornally would do the commit for all the data manipulation command
create a procedure backout which reverses what was done in the subscreen.
Not a great solution.

I hope this helps,
Regards,
Peter
