text file edit

An excellent idea, but even a die-hard VMS fan like me would admit that's
slightly impractical for an HP shop.

That said, I think there are more user-friendly text editors for unix -
there's an EDT look-alike and I believe nu/TPU for VMS exiles, notepad and
the like for windows, and probably others ?

Alternatively, how big are the files ?
You can edit single fields up to 32k on unix powerhouse I believe, so if
that would do the job, you just have to find something to reformat it
afterwards.
