We are using PH 810c on Alpha OpenVMS to access both our RDB database and an
Oracle 7 database. The TNSNAMES.ORA file on VMS contains the Oracle DB
descriptors (which resides on a Unix box) - our 810c dictionary is built
from a PDL:
create dictionary code not preloaded
File XXX_DATABASE &
Organization RELATIONAL &
Type ORACLE &
Null values allowed &
Open "ORACLE@<username>@<tnsnames-entry>/<password>" &
OWNER <oracle-schema>
This works like a charm for us and allows us to use PH against the Oracle
DB.

Subject: Access an Oracle database on a different computer
Hello All,
I have a customer who is running PowerHouse 7.10.E6 on an Alpha and would
like to access an Oracle database on a different computer which is not
running PowerHouse. The two computers are networked via a T3 line. This
appears to be feasible, at least in Version 8.3, according to the PDL OPEN
Statement. The PowerHouse Web Component Configurations also states that
"your databases can be located on yet another machine on the network". I
would like to hear from anyone who can verify that this is true, and which
version of PowerHouse would be required. Thanks.
Alfred
