David,

I missed your e-mail because I was away. I installed PH on our AS/400 after
having been on an
Alpha ourselves for several years. YOu can use GENPDLSRC to create all your
definitions and
you can do it globally or a file at a time. I created the entire DB from
JD/Edwards-db2 database.
There are a couple of limitations on the 400 that were a pain but not show
stoppers. As you may
know you can only have 32,nnn lines in a sources file so what I end up doing is
keeping the
source on a private network directory, doing my changes in there and
transferring the file back
to the 400 for compiling. You can append files to the dictionary as well. The
other nuisance is
the limitation on the *usrspc file - the compiled dictionary so to speak. It
has a limitation of 16Meg
so if you create a dictionary as huge as ours you'll have 'clean' the source. I
got mine down to
12meg after cleaning. The product has been very stable - there are a few
syntax differences
but easy to sort out. The RPG folks think creating reports is oh so fast.

If you have any more question feel free to email me

Bob Edis has it pretty close. Actually, though, you don't get .pdl and
.pdc files. You have a source member in a source file (which is an object),
for your PDL source, and a user-special object, for your compiled source.
These are the same two things you get with a QUICK, QUIZ, or QTP program.

Good Day All,

We have been running PH on Alpha/OpenVMS for years, and are now
considering
getting it for our AS/400. How does the dictionary work on the AS/400?
Specifically, what is involved with getting file difinitions into the PH
dictionary? Is it a manual data entry process, or is there some
automatic
way to generate PDL?

Thanks!
