PDL to SQL

Hi Tony,
And a Happy New Year to everyone on the list from everyone in the worldwide
ADT group here at Cognos!
Can I suggest that you take a look at Axiant 4GL, the visual PowerHouse
development workbench? (And before anyone suggests that this is way too
expensive, let me remind everyone that we completely restructured the Axiant
pricing with the launch of Axiant 4GL 3.0 last year.)
A major capability of Axiant is its ability to read PDL source code and to
create SQL data definitions based on your existing files and record
structures. Axiant will also advise you of issues that you might need to
correct before you can successfully move to a relational database (naming
conventions, normalization, etc.) -- it can even suggest and automatically
implement meny of the changes for you. Not only can it do this with your
data definitions but it can also apply the same changes to your PowerHouse
programs.
While Axiant provides a modern visual IDE for PowerHouse programs, and
includes lots of migration advise and assistance, you do not need to stay
within the Axiant development environment once you have completed your
migration to relational. You can save the modified source code contained
within the Axiant repository on your PowerHouse server machine as you
compile the programs...but once you have worked with Axiant you might not
want to go back to using a text editor again -- the choice is, however,
yours.
You can download the Axiant product documentation from our Web site, at
www.cognos.com/axiant, and the Axiant Migration Planning Guide, available
for on-line browsing or for download as a PDF document
(www.cognos.com/products/axiant/guide.html), provides many details of the
issues that you might encounter in an indexed-to-relational migration.
PowerHouse 4GL 8.30 for OpenVMS is due out in the next few months, and will
incorporate many of the OpenVMS-specific features from the current 7.10
product combined with the Oracle relational database support, PowerHouse Web
development capabilities, and Axiant 4GL 3.0 thin-client support of the
current PowerHouse 4GL 8.20 product.
If you are interested in seeing what Axiant can do for you why not give
Norma Morgan, your Cognos ADT account manager in Australia, a call on +61
(2) 9430 2223?
Best regards,
Conrad

Subject: PDL to SQL
Hello
Is their a utility to convert PDL to SQL create statements?
We are on Alpha OpenVMS with RMS files and about to convert indexed RMS
files into Oracle
database records via subfile exports.
Thanks.
