Powerhouse upgrade or not?

G'day Richard
My personal opinion is they should go OpenVMS 7.2, Oracle Rdb and PH 8.2 as
I have worked in both UNIX and OpenVMS environment with PH and Oracle and
this is easier to maintain, faster RDBMS and more features in the PH
version.
If is not possible then you have two options, stay with the Oracle 7.3.4 and
PH 7.33 versions as you are or upgrade everything. When Cognos says that PH
7.33 is not supported it simply means that the will be no enhancements or
bug fixes to that version. Their support staff will still respond to your
problems with 7.33, if you have any. Oracle is pretty much the same about
7.3.4 although it will try its hardest to get you to upgrade. Have you
looked at the conformance chart on the Cognos web site for which PH versions
will work with what OS/RDBMS combos?
I know PH 7.33 works fine with Oracle 8.0.n (on a HP/UX 10.2 box) and I
assume that PH 8.13 would too. PH 8.13 should work fine with Oracle 7.3.4
also. The question is whether PH 7.33 and Oracle 7.3.4 will work fine with
True64 5.0. This you could test on development server.
Regards,
Blue

Subject: Powerhouse upgrade or not?
This is not a powerhouse "how to / syntax" query but more about question
about what runs with what ...
Any feedback about sites that have moved through similar scenarios would be
greatly appreciated.
My aim is to minimise any upgrades given that the system is very stable but
will be replaced in the not too distant future.
Thanks in advance
--------------------
We have a client who currently works on the following environment ...
Tru64 Unix 4.0.d, Oracle 7.3.4 and Powerhouse 7.33.d3
They have a test Alpha and a production Alpha and I also have a small
development server here running the above configuration
They are purchasing a replacement box for the production system and that
will be supplied with Tru64 Unix 5.0. The testing box will stay on Tru64
Unix 4.0d.
What is the best short term strategy ?
I understand that 7.33d is no longer supported .
I understand Oracle 7.3.4 will run ( but is no longer supported ) under
both Tru64 Unix 4 and 5.
Easiest short term option - are there any sites out there running 7.33.d3
and Tru64 5.0 - should it run ( non supported )?
Next option will powerhouse 813 run under Tru64 4.0.d and 5.0?
If so what are the upgrade gotchas previous Powerhouse upgrades have
been pleasingly painless.
