Thanks all, I suspect you are all one the right track regarding the
odd byte length.  When we redid the defines as zoned the problem
went away.  On to the next fire.

If you're running on MPE/iX you may be running into issues with the odd/even
file length. Check what it looks like in QSHOW. If the sum of the items is
an odd length, then add a 1-byte defined item to the end to make it even.
Then try again. This crops up every now and then.

If you're not on iX, then you can try the above, but I've never heard of
this sort of problems other than on MPE.

We have an odd need.  A subfile has been created containing mostly subtotals
and a few plain items.
We need to be able to edit a few of fields shown as subtotals.  The quick
screen generates okay,
but complains that the record length is different when we try to use it to
access the file.

Any ideas?
