Recompiling quiz programs

OK, if anyone wants to try to reproduce this (!) try the following.

Create 100 quiz reports, every one finishing with a BUILD; the last 99 of
them with SET REPORT statements, but in the first one (only) have a SET
SUBFILE. Now compile them all at one go without a SET DEFAULT anywhere. The
first compiled report will work fine; the rest will all select 0 records.
This drove us crackers after our last upgrade; our standard template now
contains SET DEFAULT...

I think I sent this to the wrong address first time - sorry if you
get it twice.

	Hello Jackie

When you said your problem arose just after an upgrade, it confirmed
a suspicion
	I had yesterday.

Some PH upgrades involve changes to subfile format, and when the
quiz is
recompiled using subfiles already existing from the previous
version, I've got a
vague feeling that it just doesn't write any records when you run it
(in a
different place from where it was compiled, perhaps, with no
existing subfiles
to cause an obvious error in trying to overwrite the subfile, as you
would get
if you had changed the subfile items, for instance).

I tried to find an example in my records, but can't track one down
easily. I
just vaguely remember that there was no indication of what had gone
wrong.

When you recompile the quiz and it works, you are perhaps in a
different
directory, where the old-format subfiles don't exist. So in future,
when you
recompile after a PH upgrade, it's a good idea to delete the old
subfiles first.

I may be wrong, but it's worth a try!

	regards
	Merol
