colon and pattern matching

I'll be checking the colon and pattern-matching when I get into the office.
But as to the rest:
1) The manuals are available on paper for the cost of printing. Putting the
manuals on CD with a proper search was a majority request by our customers.
The vast majority that I have heard from are happy with what we've done.
2) We are fully aware that PH version 8 does not have all of the OpenVMS
specific features available in 7.10. We have explained why that happened.
Whether any of us agree with the decisions or not is moot - it's a done
deal. Looking forward, we plan to put the OpenVMS specific features back in.
We are well aware that our customers can't move to the series 8 level until
that's done as well as ensuring a smooth upgrade path.
3) We can debate the pricing of PH Web until the cows come home. This is
something for you and your local office. However, I don't understand why an
evaluation version was not available. I will be checking into this.

Mine too: Alpha VMS 7.1, PH 7.10.G3.

My VMS PH manuals also say it's a metacharacter for Kanji.
They would appear to be wrong.
But lo! Cognos have a fix for that.
I just got a letter telling me there won't be any more printed manuals (V8
onwards): just PDF.
Our paper manuals get well-thumbed: it's vital to have a reference,
particularly for all those niggling syntactical differences between Quiz,
Quick, QTP. And there isn't a supported Acrobat reader for VMS - am I
supposed
to get a Billware box just to look at documentation ?
Cognos seem to be aiming at legacy status these days: V8 seems to be a huge
retrograde step for VMS users, and still no promise of when or whether the
missing features will be put back. No paper documentation. The web product
(when I finally kicked hard enough to get some info) is hideously priced and
not available for evaluation.
If I do get a PC, it will be to do ODBC & web serving with some sensibly
priced
product, not to read Powerhouse docs.
