The HP3000-L listserver had this same discussion when the 'I Love You' virus
struck in May. The outcome of 000's of postings was that attachments would
be banned.
If you could not fit your message into the body of your posting then you
either:
a) asked for interested parties to contact you directly,
b) gave them an address where the document could be obtained.
The result, in my opinion, has been much less detritus floating around ;-).
I only wish that this were true in regard to the rest of the net.
If you don't agree with me that's your choice, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
don't let this thread drag on too long.
Well, that's my £0.013 (that's $0.02) worth.
Regards,
Robert W.Mills (Windsong Services)

Quoted from an earlier Bob Deskin post :
>>If you disallow attachments, then I wouldn't have been able to send out
the
>>OpenVMS differences list (which some of you may think a good thing :-) ).
Bob, What is the format of the "OpenVMS differences list"?
Is it an executable?
Can't it be dropped into a text format and then into a message ?
My point is that we should not expect a medium that is
standardized for access by many to also be able
to handle a variety of proprietary (sp?) formats as well.
Restated : Certain and various vendors are trying to
impose their 'standard' by having users that insist
that "I can't send my whatever directly from my deskapp
so you all have to bend to accept my needs. i.e. use
this software also. "
You know I love you Bob! ;-)

Our web and ftp site (s) are behind a firewall. Also, the ftp site is
typically restricted to supported customers. Either way, it's not the
easiest way to quickly disseminate information.
As for PH Web, that's different. We did most of our development and testing
inside the firewall. We use multiple machines connected via our LAN. We also
have some machines that are outside that LAN (but highly controlled) so we
can test over the internet itself.
