Cross machine file transfers

Michael,
We did exactly that going from HP3000/Image-SQL to NT/MS-SQLServer
in 1998 (see Paper 504 at the Enterprise 2000 Conference). We used portable
subfile formats. The target database was similar but not identical to the
original database. For the two largest tables (one was 1.6M and the other
150k), we used BCP to load the data. We were running Powerhouse 7.09 (QUIZ)
on the HP and Axiant/Powerhouse (QTP) on NT (2.02/8.01C). We did all the
selection/transforming/reformatting with QUIZ. We also disabled the normal
transaction logging on the target database to speed up the process. We
matched record counts and hash totals 100% and executed the data migration
in a single day (no production down time). We did all the error checking up
front to avoid duplicate keys, etc. It worked well.
