Hi JWP,
There are potential customers and this is one of the reasons for moving to
UNIX/Oracle (classic), since they already have other systems and want ours
on the same platform. But a bespoke system which takes approx' 7 years to
complete (with more development pending) might take some time to convert.
I agree with all your comments and these ideas are being, or have been
tried. I can only wait and see what happens.
Please, NT!! Our users would like a stable, fast system that can be
monitored properly so problems can be resolved quickly. NT v Open VMS - no
match.

If you truly have an in-house system which could be sold to others then I
can understand the desire to have it on a lowest common denominator platform
like U*x and Orakill. But why not first offer the VMS version to the
marketplace to see if there is any interest? How about getting the first U*x
customer to help pay for the port to his desired environment? It will be a
very expensive exercise if you port it and nobody wants it! You most
certainly will NOT save any of your own money. And unless it's really a pig
which requires big hardware then I'd look at NT first - much bigger
potential customer base.

JWP
