conversion ?

The reason why we are thinking of migrating are: 
    1) HP3000/957 - can only handle a maximum users of 64. 
              We are adding 3 remote branches to logon in our system, during
our busy season
	  we have at least 80-85 users logon at the same time. And to be
able to stay in 
	  HP world I need to upgrade my system into 980 and it will cost us
an arm and a leg.
	  We already have a SUN system and it has low support maintenance.
    2) My boss just does not like HP.
    3) The software we are using SUCKS. They have customize 95% of the
programs in-house
              so we could not just upgrade it. 
    4) The database initial setup is not well thought. I'm getting a lot of
request that I can't do 
	 because the database is not set for it.

We have 1747 Cobol programs and just 150 qtp & quiz programs. I just started
converting some of the COBOL program to QUIZ and QTP.

Convert job streams? I have not check how we can do that. Maybe we need to
write some sql procedure. I don't know yet. We may also look at BRIO or
Business Object.

I think the first decision you have to make is whether to redesign your
database from a hierarchical model to a relational model.  This will
seriously impact the amount of work to be done on the application programs.
Moving to a relational model will benefit your organization in the long, if
it's done properly.

Why are you migrating and what are your time contraints?  The HP3000 is a
FAR more stable and reliable environment than SUN Solaris, based on surveys
I've read.  TurboImage is a faster DBMS than almost ANY RDBMS.

Do you want to consolidate all your code, if possible, in a single language?
It is no problem converting COBOL programs to PH as long as you are prepared
for the paradigm shift in thinking how the problem should be tackled.

How much code are you talking about?
How will you convert your job streams into UNIX scripts?
What 'features' of MPE and TI do you use that are not available with
UNIX/Oracle?
