G'day Alice
Why do you need a stream file format? Are you sending this to another
system that doesn't understand discrete records (CR/LF terminated) in a
file?
The CR/LF record terminators can be stripped using either a TPU script or
setting your FTP tool to convert the file to streaming type when sending.
Why do you need variable record length?
As subfiles and text files output from PH are usually, if not allways fixed
length, you could define a variable record length file in the PHD and make
the QTP or Quiz output to that. As 7.10G1 still has the interactive
dictionary manager, unlike 8.10, you can create the file/record definition
on the fly without disturbing your users.
Let me know if I have misunderstood your issue please.

Blue

Subject: QTP-concatenating a variable number of records
Hi,
Can anyone help with this problem.
How to write the contents of one subfile containing a variable number of
records , with each record containing one item with a variable number of
trailing spaces, to a portable subfile, as one long uninterrupted
string.
It is to be noted that when we attempted to concatenate these records
(using the PACK and TRUNCATE options) into one item in the portable
subfile we were limited by the maximum item size in QTP of 2047
characters. In most instances the sum of all the records in the source
subfile, minus their respective trailing spaces will exceed 2047
characters
(Our environment is a Digital Alpha running QTP v7.10.G1)
Thanks in advance.
