Hi Alice,
I'm not sure about the Alpha but on the HP3000 we can use a bytestream file,
defined in the dictionary as SEQUENTIAL ,and just keep writing the data to
it one record at a time.
What's your opinion John (Pickering)?

Subject: QTP-concatenating a variable number of records
Hi,
Can anyone help with this problem.
How to write the contents of one subfile containing a variable number of
records , with each record containing one item with a variable number of
trailing spaces, to a portable subfile, as one long uninterrupted string.
It is to be noted that when we attempted to concatenate these records (using
the PACK and TRUNCATE options) into one item in the portable subfile we were
limited by the maximum item size in QTP of 2047 characters. In most
instances the sum of all the records in the source subfile, minus their
respective trailing spaces will exceed 2047 characters
(Our environment is a Digital Alpha running QTP v7.10.G1)
Thanks in advance.
