A general policy of never responding to spam is probably best, since a
response tells the spammer that your email address is "live."
Unfortunately, there are some vendors who acutally will remove you from
their spam list if you do reply to a specific address and "opt out",
usually by sending "remove" in the subject line. I ran into the this
with Microwarehouse, a PC hardware & software mailorder firm. They
spammed me a couple times a week until I opted out. It's a tough call
though; the firms that acutally honor the opt out request are probablly
rare.
