Audit trail of masterfile changes

We want to give the users an enquiry screen that clearly shows what was
changed and when.
With 50 fields on a masterfile its not really practical to use the audit
file. All
the masterfile fields have to be on the one record and there could be dozens
of records
with changes to different fields. I don't thinks it possible to give enquiry
access to an audit file
so that the users can clearly see what's changed and when.
