The word they're looking for is "logged" or "acknowledged".
They do say development is still working on it, though, so count yourself
lucky. I've got a list of unresolved bugs we've fallen foul of going back 4
years - hopefully when we get to a common code stream I'll be able to throw it
away & start a new list.
If you're unable to function though (and it does sound like a show-stopper),
I'd tell them their answer is unsatisfactory, and you want the call kept open
until you're back up and going. How did you get to this position ? A recent
upgrade to 7.1/phase 5 ? Did you check PH requirements with telephone support ?
(the book says to ring for support beyond 6.2). If you did and they didn't tell
you of the problems, then it really must be their problem, and they could maybe
disable licensing for you until they've fixed it. If you didn't, then
you have a much weaker case, and you should probably consider going back to
phase 4 (which still has a wide user base on 7.1, whatever Compaq say).
We're using phase 4 decnet (not that we use decnet a lot these days): if it
wasn't for the very tacky flexlm we wouldn't use it at all. It would be nice if
Cognos could find a less naff solution though: what is flexlm ? some nasty unix
freeware badly ported ? There have got to be better solutions available, even
given the portability requirement. 2 network mailboxes for every licenced user
is a bit gross, especially when they're virtually all on the local machine.
When we did use DECnet we couldn't see our other links for the noise of Cognos
licencing. What did they use before flexlm ? why did it change ?
