It's a lovely warm and sunny Friday afternoon, the tail end of a beautiful summer that just goes on and on... so its no wonder people want to come and work here. I'll try and answer the questions as best I can before I head home for a barbecue...
What's the powerhouse job scene like in New Zealand currently ?
--> A bit moribund. There are currently around 40 organisations running PowerHouse around the country, but most of these are legacy systems. Not much new development is going on, and most people are well on the way to completing their Y2K upgrades.
The users range from a one-user reporting-only licence through to someone with over 1,000 run-time licences. Some are on the look out for contractors from time to time. The majority are outside of Auckland.
We are the Cognos distributors for NZ; we maintain a small team of experts to support the customer base, but we're not hiring right now.
Is there an agency that specialises in powerhouse positions in New Zealand?
--> No. Lots of agencies are represented here. eg
www.candlenz.co.nz
www.andrewspartners.com
www.mbtglobal.com
www.iconrec.co.nz
For a newspaper contact try www.idg.co.nz
What is the lead time for getting a job/visa for New Zealand when moving
from the U.K.?
--> try www.immigration.govt.nz for details
I think they prefer you to apply for a work permit before you arrive. Coming in on a visitors permit then trying to stay and work used to be a big no-no... but the rules keep changing. If you have a university degree it's much easier. You could probably get a job as an opening batsman in the NZ cricket team right now (but then again you're probably English, which rules you out of being good at sport ;-)
Anyway, I must RTFM (Retire To Friday Meeting)
Good luck...
