Hi Ron, 

Currently future versions of 710 are the best upgrade path for 7.10 users.
That is why the Y2K features were put into it, not just 8.10.  At the same
time, the VMSisms that are not in PowerHouse 8.10 are under evaluation as to
what the customer demand is for them to determine what should be put into
future 8.x releases in order to make it an upgrade path, or whether it would
be more productive to keep 7.10 growing.  I know that those who are
determining this future are listening to this list as well as other avenues
of information gathering.

There was a time, not so long ago that DEC tried to kill VMS.... they
failed, but it took a couple of years for that failure to become clear.
Some of the decisions that Cognos made would have been made during that
time-frame.  Times change, and all must make changes to keep up, but you
can't always just flick a switch to do it.  I'm really not trying to make
excuses, I don't always like the decisions that are made.  It's just
reality, they've been made.  We can do our best to make our desires known
and fight for the changes we want, or we can give up.  If you give up,
you've got to learn to live with that decision too.  If you fight, at least
there's hope, and you just never know what neat things can happen!
