Accessing files in QUIZ

I am trying to determine which is the best way to access a single record
file by specified key value in QUIZ ...

(1) access file a &
      link ("abc") to key-b of file b &
      link key-a of file a to key-c of file c

(2) access file a &
      link key-a of file a to key-c of file c &
      link ("abc") to key-b of file b

In other words, only one record is being retrieved from file b which has no
relationship to either file a or file c. I have done some (inconclusive)
testing, anyone know which is more efficient, or doesn't it matter????
